Given Charge
Beloved Brethren and co labourers in God’s vine yard, may I use this ample opportunity of addressing you all this evening, to say you are welcome and wish you a happy and prosperous new year 2020. I am led in my Spirit to translate this year to a year of plenty plenty earnestly believing God that it shall turn out to be so for all of us in Jesus precious name Amen.
For our Ministers called to be with the Lord let us rise to our feet and observe a minute silence……..
My heart has long desired to see you and have a word with you, not because as a minister of the glorious gospel of Christ you are lagging behind, though some of us are; rather that we may as instruments in the hand of God sharpen one another for IRON SHARPENETH IRON.
Thank God for the occasion created by the Church Ministers pre-conference Seminar which I am confident that we shall make maximum use of.
Before I delve into the charge and words of admonition, please permit me convey to you the joy in the heart of our Spiritual Leader, Apostle Dr. W.U. Omoregie, JP, FCIPDM, that you arrived safely from your respective destinations, it is our Lord’s doing and we glorify his name for journey mercies. Now, my fellow Ministers, let us remind ourselves that we are here for the singular reason of our Church conference and the installation of our new Spiritual Leader. We owe it a duty to make if succeed. We are to maintain high level of moral discipline and self-control.
We are expected to put our emotions in check; we are expected to put our appetite in check. We are expected to mind our tongues and guard our hearts. Remembers Ecclesiastes 5:1,2 says “Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear ……..”. “Be not rash with thy mouth and let not thine heart be hasty to utter anything before God for God is in heaven and you upon earth, therefore let thy words be few”
You may have good reason to be angry but sin not, as men called by God, “Give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord” (1 Cor. 15:58). A career is something you choose; a calling is something you receive. A career is something you do for yourself, a calling is something you do for God. A career promises status, money and power, a calling generally promises difficulty, suffering and the opportunity to be used by God.
A career may end with retirement and lots of toys; a calling does not end until you die. A career can be disrupted by any number of events, but God enables you to fulfill your calling even in the most difficult circumstances. For some people in the scripture obeying the call of God meant living in slavery, being captured and sent into exile, or being put to death. Yet they fulfilled their calling in extraordinary ways.
Beloved, check if yours is career pursuit or call of God.
To some of us here, the end of their career became the beginning of their calling. So whatever God has called you to do, the Bible says “Give yourselves fully to the work…… because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain”
God works through different (people) in different ways (1 Cor. 12:6) Brethren, when you don’t honour your raw material, reality become your enemy. The word vocation comes from Latin word for voice. Discovering your calling involves listening very carefully.
If you close ears and pursue something you are neither called nor equipped to do, like some of us do today, you will end up living with anxiety that whispers. “You are trying to do something God didn’t tell you to do”.
Remember you are called; before Peter walked on the water he said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water”. And (Jesus) said “come”. You are not in-charge of water-walking. Jesus is! Some of us are now in-charge of our calling.
It is not about having power at your disposal to be used anytime you choose, for whatever you please.
Before you decide to get out of the boat you better be sure it’s what you have been called to and that Jesus is the one calling you. According to revelations received, we are now operating a church where so many hands are struggling to hold the steering both at Branches, Districts, Zones, Regions and the Church in general.
Please concentrate on where the Lord has placed you.
The Conference theme is “The Covenant” and the lecture topics are tailored to help us keep the covenant benefits our church has with God.
We shall hear from the Speaker those issues that bother us let us receive the words and use them to better our ministries, you may think yourself better than the speakers humble yourself to listen for God may have a word for you.
If you are a minister, you are posted to a branch and the members say they do not want you, examine yourself-character is everything. There will be ministers council meeting on Thursday morning in this hall, please prepare to speak but let your word be seasoned with salt.
Channel your complaints properly make the environment conductive for a memorable conference use this occasion to pray for the Church, Leadership, pray for God to better your ministry, we have ministers but no pastors on behalf of the Spiritual leader, Let me remind our Supervisors at all levels that the growth of the Church depends on all of us.
The Church authority is planning to visit all non-performing Regions, Zones and Districts. The tree that does not bear fruits an axe is laid there on. Some of you have renamed your branches, you now call them parish.
THE CHURCH SAYS NO TO SUCH ABUSE.
We shall not tolerate any act of indiscipline, during and after the Conference.
Ensure you register your names and that of your wives, to enable you collect the conference packages put on your tags at all times.
