National Youth Ministry

The Youth Ministry of St Joseph`s Chosen Church of God, started as an informal gathering of some youths in 1985 under the leadership of  Late Pastor S. Osieke and later succeeded by Late Apostle John Aziken. Between 1985 and 1998, these leaders were then referred to as President and the group as National Youth Fellowship. It was the Administration of the present Spiritual Leader of the Church, Apostle Dr. H.I. Alile, OFR, NPOM, that transformed the Fellowship to a full-fledged Ministry in the Year 1998 and the overall Supervising  Leader was thereafter referred to as the Pioneer Youth Minister. Apostles B.O.N Tikpa, Late Apostle John Aziken and Apostle James Ogbu headed the Ministry before the present Leader, Apostle Gideon Irerhievwie.

The Ministry is run by the National Executive Council (NEC) made up of Elected Officials and Regional Coordinators. The NEC reports to the National Youth Minister, who is the interface between the Church and the Ministry. Elected officials run the affairs of the Ministry at the Regional, District, and Branch levels. There is also an Advisory Committee made up of Regional Youth Ministers and selected Youth Leaders. The membership is drawn from male and female members of Church, in the age bracket of 18 – 35years.

The Cardinal Objectives of the Ministry include bringing into the consciousness of the Youths -the Horse Power of the Church- the  core values of the Church; reminding and engaging the Youths in Church growth; Prepare Youths for effective and successful marriage; encourage academic excellence; encourage entrepreneurship; teach Youths to have good social life that does not compromise  Christian doctrines.

The realization of the stated objectives is pursued in the Youth Ministry through the aggressive activities which include regular group Prayers and Fasting at Branch, District, Region, and National levels; organisation of regular Seminars and Workshops to address various issues such as Courtship, leadership, Skill Acquisition, etc; organisation of Periodical Camp Meetings/Conventions at Regional and National levels as well as organisation of Social/Recreational Activities such as Music Concerts/Competitions, Beauty Pageant, Sports, Bible and Current Affairs Quiz Competitions, etc.

Overall, The National Youth Ministry constantly innovates in performing the routine activities, without compromising the basic tenets of the Church and ultimately operates under the guidance, dictates, and directives of the Holy Spirit, the Executive Head of the Church. Being a dynamic Ministry, the National Youth Ministry is constantly evolving plans to achieve the ultimate goal of building spiritually, morally, economically and physically strong body of Youths with stable social and emotional character that will produce dependable crop of leaders in the Church and in the Society.

The Youth Ministry also oversees the Activities of the Campus Fellowship of the Church. The Campus Fellowship is responsible for galvanizing the Church Activities in all the Campuses where the Church maintains Presence. The Church is propelled to maintain active presence in Tertiary Institutions of Learning in honour of the Great Charge of Our Lord And Savoiur Jesus Christ in (Matt.28: 19-20) to His Body-the Church to ensure all Nations and everybody gets access to the Gospel, not limited by geography or location. In this way the Students, Lecturers and the Staff of such Institutions are provided access to worship God in Truth and in Spirit under the Umbrella of St Joseph`s Chosen Church of God, while on their Academic Pursuits. Some of the Tertiary Institutions where our Campus Fellowship is active include University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State; Delta State University, Abraka, Delta State; Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, to mention just a few.

Among the major achievements of the Ministry include significant enhancement of the spiritual content and inclination of members by emphasizing on regular basis the core values of the Church; Galvanizing the Youths to participate more actively in activities geared toward Church growth; revival of the moral content of members through the instrumentality of the Positive change Crusaders (PCC): a unit of the Ministry that preaches moral re-armament; pursuing the economic well being of members through the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship training unit – the Youth Development Initiative (YUDI). Setup platforms that prepare Youths as future leaders of the Church, and the training Efforts put into Youths for effective and successful marriage, have started yielding results.

The Minister overseeing the affairs of the Ministry and piloting it to greatness is the erudite teacher and dynamic servant of the Lord, Apostle Gideon Irerhevwie.
